The History of the Hideaway (as we have been told)
The 1938 building of the Hideaway was financed by Al Capone Enterprises. The Hideaway was once a popular gangsters' fun house, complete with gambling and an upstairs brothel. The main lodge has a long-standing reputation of being haunted; past owners insist that they've heard the distinct sound of high-heeled shoes clicking across the hardwood floors at night!
Neighbors always knew when Capone or friends were enjoying the resort because when they were there, armed guards were posted by the end of the driveway. Rumor has it that the police once raided the Hideaway and threw the slot machines into the lake, still full of the gamblers' losses, where they supposedly still lie today.
There is also talk of a car that rests just off of the Hideaway shoreline on the bottom of Muskie Lake...no one knows for sure what may be inside, but some are convinced it's burned out and riddled with bullet holes.
